There are over 40 million people in America who are caregivers for an elderly patient, loved one, or client. If you are one of these hard-working caregivers, you probably think about other people before yourself. The services you provide to those in need can take an emotional, mental, and physical toll, if you don’t make it a priority to invest in your own health also.

The best way to take care of others is to take care of yourself first.

Here are some ideas to pamper YOU:

  • Nutrition be sure to stay hydrated, eat small meals throughout your day to prevent low blood sugar and keep energy levels up, add lean proteins to your diet for muscle-building, snack on fruits and veggies to boost immunity, reward yourself with a treat every so often, avoid alcohol and drugs
  • Exercise take a walk with a friend, sign up for a yoga class, join a fitness center, start your day off with a stretching routine, get enough sleep
  • Spirituality– think positively, try meditation or quiet self-reflection, keep a journal,  engage in activities that support your religious beliefs, talk to a therapist, social worker or counselor
  • Ask for help– know your limits…be realistic about how much time and yourself you can give. Don’t try to do it all!  Look into in-home care to alleviate your responsibilities.  Contact Luba Services, Inc. with questions about where to start.
